Frequently Asked Questions

Do URLs from the previous site redirect to pages on the new site?

In order to support customers who have bookmarked the current URLs, for example in library catalogue systems or in reading lists, as well as search engines and discovery and indexing databases, we have set up URL redirects.

This will mean that links to content pages (e.g. to articles, books, cases, museums and exhibitions) and also links to Research and Learning resources redirect to the corresponding page on the new Bloomsbury Fashion Central site.

Please note the redirects will live in our platforms indefinitely. DOIs will continue to point to the new platform too. This means that if you are using our MARC records (which include DOI URLs), you need not be concerned about the URLs. If you are using your own MARC records or are bookmarking pages using the OLD platform URLs, you are covered by the redirects.

Do direct product URLs continue to worked on the previous Fashion Central site?

Direct URL links to each product (i.e. www.bergfashionlibrary.com) will continue to redirect to www.bloomsburyfashioncentral.com.

The previous Bloomsbury Fashion Video Archive URL (www.bloomsburyfashionvideo.com) redirects to www.bloomsburyfashioncentral.com.

What about access methods? How do they work on the new platform?

Your access method, for example IP address, Shibboleth or Open Athens, will continue to work in exactly the same way.

Any Bloomsbury Fashion Central (Berg Fashion Library, Fairchild Books Library, Fashion Photography Archive, Bloomsbury Fashion Business Cases or Bloomsbury Fashion Video Archive) customers using EZProxy need to ensure that they have the Geoplugin stanza in their EZProxy config.txt (if it is not there already) just above the Bloomsbury Fashion Central stanza.

Please therefore check and confirm that your EZProxy config file stanzas for Bloomsbury Fashion Central are as follows, including the Option Cookie directive:

Title GEOPlugin (updated 20200423):

Are there any changes to usage statistics (COUNTER reports)?

There is a change to the availability of some COUNTER reports.

From December 14th 2021, we began offering COUNTER 5 Database reports. As a result of this addition, we will no longer support the Database Report 1 – DB1 nor Database Report 2- DB2 in COUNTER 4. The COUNTER 4 reports will be available for data from 2016 to mid-December 2021.

If you need any COUNTER compliant Database reports past December 14th 2021, we would advise that you pull a COUNTER 5 Database Master Report (DR).

What do I need to do about my personal account?

If you are an instructor, librarian or student with an existing personal account:
You will need to set up a personal account on the new Bloomsbury Fashion Central site, this is a simple process that can be done quickly and easily.

Bookmarks saved to your previous personal accounts will not have been retained, unless you saved links to your favourite pages within your own browser.

How does my Bloomsbury Fashion Business Cases instructor account work now?

If you are an instructor who has access to extended teaching notes on Bloomsbury Fashion Business Cases account:
You should have been contacted regarding your new instructor account, which will be on bloomsbury.com. Please create an account on the Bloomsbury website here, if you do not have one already, and then please let us know so we can authenticate your access. You will then be fully set up to begin using the enhanced features of the new platform on its launch.

How do I access my Fairchild Books products?

You will need to use www.bloomsbury.com/fairchildbooks as the primary URL for accessing Fairchild Books course materials, as it will not be part of the migration of Bloomsbury Fashion Central to its new platform.

Beginning May 16th 2023, Fairchild Books products including printed textbooks, eTextbooks and STUDIO packages will be available for purchase and to request as exam copies from www.bloomsbury.com/fairchildbooks.

How do personal accounts work on the new site?

On the new site your Personal Account enables you to:

  • Save books, chapters, articles, cases, images or other items to view later
  • Organise your saved items into folders
  • Email and export citations
  • Save searches and receive search alerts

On the new site the My Content area contains:

  • My Saved Items: this is where you can save (bookmark) items on the new platform: you can create your own folders and organise your saved items. This will be empty until you start saving items on the new platform; you can save links to books, chapters, articles, cases, videos, images.
  • My Saved Searches: this is where all the searches that you have saved on the new platform appear. This is a new feature, which was not available on the old site, so nothing will be saved here until you start saving Searches on the new platform. You will also be able to turn email alerts on and off for saved searches here. When turned on, you will receive an email whenever new relevant content for that search is added.
  • My Clips: this is new functionality on the new platform and enables you to save video clips to your personal account. Again, this is a new feature, which was not available on the old site. Nothing will be saved here until you start saving your own video clips.

On the new site the My Profile area is where you can:

  • Edit your name and email address
  • Change your password
  • Opt in to receive information about Bloomsbury Fashion Central and related Bloomsbury products
